New Bali course maximises natural coastal beauty

Nov 05, 2008 02:53 AM

Designed by GOLFPLAN, for GOLF LINKS RESORT, the New Kuta Golf Course is situated on top of the impressive limestone cliffs which overlook Bali's Balangan Beach.

Some of the lower holes actually run alongside the waters edge, giving the course a 'tropical links' feel. There is no doubt, however, that the clifftop holes are the most impressive and offer great views over the Indian Ocean.

The course retains the area's local grasses and vegetation which border the seashore paspalum fairways and the designers have resisted the temptation to supplement the rather sparse natural tree cover. Greens are planted with ultra-dwarf Bermuda grass to ensure smooth-rolling.

The overall impression of New Kuta is of unspoilt beauty and breathtaking views, and as GolfPlan partner, David Dale has modestly pointed out "it would have been difficult to build a golf course on this site that wasn't drop-dead gorgeous!"

Whatever the reasons, New Kuta Golf Course is a welcome addition to the islands golfing facilities and is expected to provide a boost for Indonesia's struggling tourism related industry. So much so that Golf Links Resort intend to build another, adjacent course once the current resort and hotel development is eventually complete.

GreenTGolf congratulates both the developers and designers at New Kuta Golf Course, and would like to hear from you if you can recommend a similarly eco-friendly project.
