Feb 24, 2009 01:57 PM

Billy Payne Chairman of Augusta National and Peter Dawson Chief Executive of Royal and Ancient custodians of the majors with the most global influence announced on 15th February 2009 the inauguration of a New Asian Amateur Championship to be played at Mission Hills in China and the event will be operated and financed jointly by the two organisations.
The winner will receive an invitation to the Masters and an exemption to the final stage of qualifying for the British Open.
Asia was recognised as the growth area for Golf and where the maximum benefit for young golfers could be derived by these two prestigious golfing organisations.
Billy Payne said, “we thought if we could identify good golfers and create heroes who would be emulated by other kids, in the process they would be attracted to the game.”
